Welcome

*This CD is no longer available (unless you know me… I have a bunch lying around!)

Soon to be an updated blog associated with my latest musical endeavor – check out more at http://mattgarwoodmusic.com !  Thanks!

Welcome to my little corner of the web…

If you’re here, it’s probably because of my first solo CD, After Darkness, Light.  To your left you will see links to pages about me and each song on the cd.  These “song” pages contain a little write-up on each song,  as well as a 60-sec. sample, and the lyrics.  (The “Play” button is a gray triangle button).  Feel free to comment on any of them – the link is at the bottom.  I’d LOVE to know your thoughts, suggestions, etc.

This album, released June, 2008, is a true labor of love.  It’s taken years to write, and a year to record in Apple’s fabulous “garageband” program, re-record, re-record, enjoy, get frustrated, re-record, get a new computer, re-record in Apple’s “Logic” program, re-record, etc.  you get the idea.  If you only knew how low-budget the production was (recorded with ONE microphone, ONE track at a time, in ONE small bonus room) you’d flip!  It’s been a real education!  I’ve definitely become a better engineer through the process.

Inspired by my experiences as a sinner saved by grace and the testimony of the never-quite-perfect folks who have gone before us, “After Darkness, Light”  is a blend of all styles but only one goal:  to glorify God by contrasting His excellence with my unworthiness.  The album is meant to be listened to in order – with the songs flowing from the simple to the profound; from infatuation to hopelessly in love.  From “I’m not so bad” to “God save me, a sinner.”  I hope you get that when you listen, and if it makes you reexamine your own life to hear my stories, all the late nights and frustration that went into making this album will have been worth it.

If you’d like to purchase a cd, you have a few options: buy one at a concert, contact me, or use my online store:

You can also help me out by simply spreading the word.  As someone who’s been involved in music for a while, I know how hard it is to self-promote.  Just getting folks aware that you exist is hard, let alone getting them to listen to your stuff!  Please direct your friends here, to my site, and let them know they can listen to samples of the album, buy one (through the online store), and please leave me a note so I know you were here!

In Him,

Matt Garwood

Matt; I am impressed and proud of you!! You have great talent, just like your Dad. I know we have not seen much of you up close over the years, but trust that we have watched from afar, your Mom and Dad have kept us up to date, we have always been there, and kept you in our hearts and thoughts and prayers. Excellent job!!

Lots of love always, Uncle Pat and Aunt Jeri, cousins Nick, Tiana, and Kyra

Hey Matt, the tunes sound great, your recording setup is very similar to mine. I didn’t see the box.net thing up here, but you said you’d figured it out. If you need any help with it, i’ll be glad to try to walk you through it. my email is weshuntermusic@gmail.com.

basically, you go to design>widgets and add a box.net widget. you then go to box.net, upload your tunes and pull down the options menu and select “get a widget” or something like that, it’ll give you some code which you post into the text field of the widget on your wordpress dashboard.

good luck man, hope that helps. keep making music.

Ok, so you know number 9 is my favorite. Myriah has a beautiful wonderful voice. I really hope she plays a big role in your next two albums. I can’t wait to find out what you are having so we can have a man shower! (Although, I think Myriah will still win the focus–not sure why it works that way lol). I love your whole album. It is so calming and peaceful. I have been playing it during center or small group time when appropriate at a real low volume! Hey, maybe an instrumental version! I wish you two the best as you experience the most awesome thing in the world as you bring baby Garwood into this world!

Hey, Matt! Just finished listening to the clips of the songs. Awesome, and some amazing lyrics! If I buy the CD from the online store, do you still get the whole amount, or does the site get part of that? Just want to make sure it all comes to you! Linking your page on my blog, hope that is OK! Great to see you the other day. Looking forward to getting to hear the whole CD and also hearing about your baby boy soon!

Absolutely grab one from the web store (there’s only 3 left, and I’m about to get the cd out a few other places, like cdbaby.com and itunes).

Thanks everybody for the kind words, and this last month has been SLOW for me, gig-wise, but though I haven’t been playing out much, my life has been anything but slow. My wife and I are close (5 weeks) to the birth of our first kid – a baby boy. This has kept me quite busy, and probably will continue to do so :) I hope to schedule a ton of stuff after he’s born, so it may be February before I’m out playing again. Keep praying that God uses my music in a mighty way – it’s only through him that anyone’s stony heart will be softened. My hope is that my music will be there, full of truth, to be used in pulling the gospel message to their new hearts of flesh.

    Soli Deo Gloria!

This may be the excellent weblog for anyone who wishes to search out out about this subject. You recognize rather a lot its nearly arduous to argue with you (not that I severely would want…HaHa)!!! You definitely put a brand new spin on a subject thats been written about for decades. Nice issues, merely good!
